The More You Know: It was invented by silversmith Victor Cedarstaff of Wickenburg, AZ, where I've actually been. Wary of losing his silver-trimmed hatband on a windy day, Cedarstaff slipped it around his neck. An idea appeared, and Cedarstaff soon fashioned the first bola tie. The name is derived from boleadora, an Argentine lariat, and bolas, Spanish for "ball" - a throwing weapon. The bolo tie has been New Mexico's official tie since March 13, 2007.
