The More You Know: In 1769, Johann Gottfried Herder introduced the word Zeitgeist into German as a translation of genius seculi (Latin: genius - "guardian spirit" and saeculi - "of the century"). However, the concept is best known from Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's philosophy of history, which he developed from 1822-1830.
