The More You Know: The SeaWorld mascot Shamu's name means "friend of Namu" or "she-Namu." Shamu was the first female orca ever captured (c. 1966). She was intended for a Seattle aquarium to be a companion to Namu, who was - in turn - named after the shore he was caught near in Namu, British Columbia. Anyway, Shamu and Namu didn't like each other, so SeaWorld bought her. Go ahead and watch her swim around on this creepy webcam!
