What is the origin of the word "hoopla"?
Search: hoopla
Why: I just typed it.
Answer: It's for sure French, from around 1870. Maybe from houp-là! - a command (as to a child) to move, take a step; or like "upsy-daisy," also a cry to dogs, horses, etc.

The More You Know: Sometimes it sounds like Alvin wants a "hoopla hoop."
