Why: They have the same name!!

Answer: Yes! Bally Total Fitness traces its roots to Lion Manufacturing, which made a popular pinball game called Ballyhoo in the 1930s. The company changed its name to Bally Manufacturing in 1932, and soon developed and improved the modern mechanical slot machines that were the backbone of the gaming industry. It also made munitions and airplane parts, home computer games, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, and eventually exercise equipment.

In 1983, Bally purchased Health and Tennis Corporation of America and Lifecycle, a manufacturer of exercise bikes. It further expanded with the purchase of the American Fitness Centers and Nautilus Fitness Centers. Included in the acquired clubs were ones connected to Vic Tanny and Jack LaLanne. The various brands became Bally Total Fitness in 1995.
